Free Crochet Bird Nest Pattern
Crochet Bird Nest Pattern by Crochet For You.
There are a lot of birds in our garden. Some birds come into our house to see a place to build their nests. I thought myself why I can’t crochet a sweet home, sweet nest for them using my skill? And it will decorate our garden too. What a great idea I had. So I did it last. I like to know, what you think about this pattern.

Skill Level:
I think this is easy to crochet. Don’t think about skill level. Try it yourself.
Materials (I used):
Nylon String 50g (7 WPI), 3.25 mm crochet hook.
Finished size:
Nest = 7.5 inch long (Without tail)
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
beg = begining
2tog = crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
st = stitch
* = repeat stitches from * to*.
About the pattern:
Working in the round until round 6. After crocheting first round 6, next 5 is crocheted in rows to make a hole. If you do not like to crochet in back loop and front loop, you can crochet those rows in the normal way too.

I love this idea, although I may pick a “natural” colour when I try this as there are quite a few sparrow hawks in our area, give the little loves a place to blend in. Now which shop shall I pop to to get suitable string? 😀
Jane
Thank you so much for this project. We just last month moved to the smokey mountains in North Carolina & boy do we have birds! They are all over my bird feeder. So this is great to be able to make them homes. Thank you again….

I want to make this for my mom, but I have no idea what kind of nylon string to get. I keep finding thread, but yours looks like yarn, not thin like a thread. Did you use paracord?
Erangi Udeshika
Hi Kelly, I used nylon string. not paracord. Because nylon can be used in outdoors as well. Paracord also will good alternative, too. See others projects on Ravelry of this pattern and get an idea of the material they used >> https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bird-nest/people
P.S.And I was searching through Amazon to show you a similar cord and I stopped at this product, But I can’t say it’s exactly 100% match with mine. but I haven’t see or touch this cord. See the Amazon affiliate link https://amzn.to/2LkIuT9

Thank you, I’m about to whip this up for Mother’s Day! My mom lives in Louisiana and has a very rare yellow cardinal that visits, and she’s become an avid bird watcher so this is perfect!

So glad you like it. I hope your mom will like this, too. 🙂
Karin
Hi I was wondering if you can make this nest with other Yarns instead of Nylon? Thanks for your help.
Erangi Udeshika
Hi Karin, yes you can use other yarns in worsted or bulky weight for this. I used nylon because it can be used in outdoors as well.
