Skill level intermediate

Finished size = (6-12 months)

• Sole: 4” from toe to heel, 2.5” wide.

Materials

worsted weight

• (MC) Approx: 14 yards
• (C1) Approx: 7 yards
• 5mm crochet hook
• 2 buttons and tapestry needle

Gauge 15 hdc x 8.5 rows = with 4mm crochet hook.

Abbreviations / stitches

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sk = skip
• st – stitch
• sl st = slip stitch
• beg = beginning
• [] = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
• (MC) = Main Color
• (C1) = Color 1
• (RS) = Right side
• BLO = Back Loop Only

Special stitches

• sc2tog = Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull back through all 3 loops on hook at once.
• sc9tog = Insert hook in same st and draw up a loop. [Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop] 8 times. Yarn over, pull back through all 10 loops on hook at once, ch 1 for close the st.

Notes:

• Beg ch does not count as st.

Make 2

Sole

Round 1: (MC) ch 10, 4 dc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch 3, sc in next ch 3, 4 sc in last ch, working on opposite side of the foundation chain, sc in next ch 3, hdc in next ch 3, sl st to first dc. (20 sts total)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in same st and next 3 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of next 4 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, sl st to first hdc. (28 sts total)

Round 3: ch 1, 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts. sl st to first hdc. (36 sts total)

Sides of bootie

Round 4: working on BLO, ch 1, sc in same st and next 4 sts, 2 sc2tog one time – see special stitches, sc in each of next 29 sts around. (35 sts total with sc2tog)

Round 5: ch 1, hdc same st and next st, [ch 1, sk next st, hdc in next 2 sts] 3 times, ch 1, sk next st, hdc in each of next 22 sts, ch 1, sl st to first hdc. (30 sts total)

Round 6: join (C1) with ch 2 in first st of previous round, sk next st, [working over the chain 1 and into the top of the st from two rows previous 3 dc] 4 times, sk next st, sc in each of next 20 sts, sk next st, working over the chain 1 and into the top of the st from two rows previous 3 dc, sl st to first dc. (15 dc / 20 sc)

Right side bootie with strap (If you are a lefty, this should be left side bootie)

Round 7: starting from same st you just sl st in previous round, ch 1, sc9tog see special stitches ( first half finished sc of sc9tog should be in first st (photos 1 and 2 below)), [sl st to next st] 22 times (photo 3 below), ch 13, hdc in 2^nd ch from hook, hdc in next st, ch 1, sk next ch, hdc in each of next ch 9, sk next st in round 6 of bootie, [sl st to next st in round 6 of bootie] 5 times. Fasten off and weave the ends. Sew the button on opposite side

Left side bootie with strap (if you are a lefty, this should be right side bootie)

Round 7: starting from same st you just sl st in previous round 9sc2tog – see special stitches  ( first half finished sc of sc9tog should be in first st), [sl st to next st] 5 times, ch 13, hdc in 2^nd ch from hook, hdc in next st, ch 1, sk next ch, hdc in each of next ch 9, sk next st in round 6 of bootie, [sl st to next st] 22 times. Fasten off and weave the ends. Sew the button on opposite side.
