Materials
- Sport or DK weight yarn in Red and White colors
- 4mm crochet hook
- Fiberfill
- Safety eyes, jingle bells
- Tapestry needle
Abbreviations/special stitches
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- sk = skip
- ch- sp = chain space
- beg = beginning
- (C1) = color 1
- (C2) = color 2
Special stitches
- sc2tog = Insert hook in (first st, if you are at the beginning of the row) or next st and draw up a loop. Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull back through all 3 loops on hook at once.
Notes
- Beg ch does not count as st.
- Less than 30 yards required for this pattern.
Crochet Santa
(Make 2)
With (C1), Make a magi ring.
Row 1: (work in row) ch 1, 4 sc into the ring, turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st across, turn. (8 sts)
Row 3: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to across, turn. (12 sts)
Row 4: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, turn. (16 sts)
Row 5: ch 1, sc in first st and each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of next 7 sts, turn. (18 sts)
Row 6: ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (18 sts)
Row 7: ch 1, sc in first st and each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, turn. (20 sts)
Next rows work in straight side of the half circle.
Row 8: ch 1, sc in each st across including magic ring, turn. (15 sts)
Row 9: ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (15 sts)
Row 10: repeat row 10. (15 sts)
Join (C2) yarn at the first st of the last row.
Row 11: repeat row 10. (15 sts)
Row 12: sc2tog (see special stitches), sc in each of next 11 sts, sc2tog, turn. (13 sts)
Row 13: sc2tog, sc in each of next 9 sts, sc2tog, turn. (11 sts)
Row 14: ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (11 sts)
Row 15: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each of next 7 sts, sc2tog, turn. (9 sts)
Row 16: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each of next 5 sts, sc2tog, turn. (7 sts)
Row 17: ch 1, 3 sc in first st, sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn. (8 sts)
Row 18: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each of next 5 sts, 3 sc in last st, turn. (9 sts)
Row 19: ch 1, 3 sc in first st, sc in each of next 5 sts, sc2tog, turn. (10 sts)
Row 20: ch 1, [sc2tog] 2 times, sc in each of next 5 sts, 3 sc in last st, turn. (10 sts) Fasten off and weave the ends.
Joining two pieces together
Holding two pieces together, with (C2) begin with 3 sc at the first sc2tog (top of the Santa hat). Crochet sc around the edge to joining two pieces. Add fiberfill while joining. Don’t forget to fill lightly. sl st to the first st.
After joining two pieces together, crochet ch 30 or 40 and sl st to the first st (made a loop). Fasten off and weave the ends.
The bread
Begin at the previous st located near the row 9 (the second white straight row on the half circle). Join the (C2) yarn, sk next st, 3 sc in next st, sk next st, sl st to the next. [sk next st, 6 dc in next st, sk next st, sl st to the next] 3 times, sk next st, 3 sc in next st, sk next st, sl st to the next. Fasten off and weave the ends.
Attach safety eyes, jingle bell. Sew mouth.
