Skill level: Easy
Finished size: 6.5” width and 13.5” height
Materials:
#4 – Medium / Worsted weight yarns (Approx: 220 yards total)
(I used)
- (C1) red color (Approx: 110 yards total)
- (C2) light khaki color (Approx: 110 yards total)
- J-9, 5.5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
Gauge: 12 hdc x 8 rows = 4″ with I-9, 5.5mm crochet hook.
Abbreviations/special stitches
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- side-st
- sl st = slip stitch
- beg = beginning
- sk = skip
- yo = yarn over
- to ; = repeat * to the instructions.
- (C1) = color 1
- (C2) = color 2
Special stitches
- hdc2tog = [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yo, pull up a loop] 2 times, yo, pull back through all the loops on the hook.
Notes:
- Beg ch does not count as st.
- Do not cut the yarn when changing colors. Carry each yarn when it needs from inside the stocking.
Jolly Pebbles Christmas Stocking Pattern
With (C1) make a magic ring
Round 1: ch 1, 10 hdc into the ring, sl st to the first hdc. (10 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st the first hdc. (20 sts)
Round 3: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first hdc. (30 sts)
Round 4: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first hdc. (40 sts) Do not cut the yarn. Carry on yarn when it needs.
Round 5: join (C2) yarn, ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *sk next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first hdc. (40 sts) Do not cut the yarn when changing colors. Carry yarn when it needs.
Round 6: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 7: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 8: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 9: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 10: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 11: repeat round 5 with (C2). Cut (C2) yarn and fasten off.
Heel (working in rows)
Row 1: with (C1), ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc in each of next 19 sts, turn. (20 sts)
Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (20 sts)
Row 3: ch 1, hdc in first st and each of next 7 sts, hdc2tog (see special stitches) twice, hdc in each of next 8 sts, turn. (18 sts)
Row 4: repeat row 2. (18 sts)
Row 5: ch 1, hdc in first st and each of next 6 sts, hdc2tog twice, hdc in each of next 7 sts, turn. (16 sts)
Row 6: repeat row 2. (16 sts)
Row 7: ch 1, hdc in first st and each of next 5 sts, hdc2tog twice, hdc in each of next 6 sts, turn. (14 sts)
Row 8: repeat row 2. (14 sts)
Row 9: ch 1, hdc in first st and each of next 4 sts, hdc2tog twice, hdc in each of next 5 sts, turn. (12 sts)
Working around including sts in end of rows of the heel and unworked stitches of stocking round 11.
Round 12: working down the ends of row of the heel, ch 1, 2 hdc in first side-hdc st of the heel, [sk next side-sc st, 2 hdc in next side-hdc st ] 4 times, working around the unworked sts of round 11, 2 hdc in next st of round 11, [sk next st, 2 hdc in next st] 9 times, sk last st of round 11, working up the end of row of heel, 2 hdc in first side-hdc st, [sk next side-sc st, 2 hdc in next side-hdc st ] 4 times, sk sts on the top of heel and sl st to the first hdc. (40 sts) Do not cut the yarn when changing colors. Carry yarn when it needs.
Round 13: Join the (C2) yarn, repeat round 5 of the stocking. Do not cut the yarn and carry yarn when it needs.
Round 14: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 15: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 16: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 17: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 18: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 19: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 20: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 21: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 22: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 23: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 24: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 25: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 26: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Note: At this point, I realized my (C1) yarn not enough so I made last 3 rounds (27, 28 and 29) with (C2) and save (C1) yarn to make a cuff. J You can continue the pattern with 2 colors. 🙂
Round 27: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Round 28: repeat round 5 with (C1)
Round 29: repeat round 5 with (C2)
Cuff
(Turn the work inside out to crochet cuff. Round 30 to 33)
Round 30: with (C1) yarn, ch 1, hdc in each st around, sl st to the first hdc. (40 sts)
Round 31 to 33: repeat round 29. Fasten off and weave the ends. Fold the cuff.
Finishing.
Sew open side of the heel. When you finished turn the stocking right side out and fold the cuff.
Loop for hanging
Join yarn top corner inside. crochet 25 chains, sl st to the same stitch and fasten off and weave ends.
