- Hat height = 4″
- Hat circumference = 10″
- Crown circle diameter (round 1 – 4) = 3”

Materials
#4-Medium / Worsted (Approx: 25 total yards)
I used
- Red Heart Soft White, Turquoise (Amazon affiliate)
- I-9 / 5.5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge: 13 hdc x 9 rows = 4″ with I-9 / 5.5mm crochet hook.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- beg = beginning
- *to = repeat * to the instructions.
Little Heart Crochet Preemie Hat
Round 1: ch 1 (does not count as st), 8 hdc into the ring, sl st to the first hdc. (8 sts).
Round 2: ch 1 (does not count as st), 2 hdc in first st and each of next st around, sl st to the first hdc. (16 sts)
Round 3: ch 1 (does not count as st), 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat to around, sl st to first hdc. (24 sts)
Round 4: ch 1 (does not count as st), 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first hdc. (32 sts)
Round 5 to 10: ch 1 (does not count as st), hdc in first st and each st across, sl st to the first hdc. (32 sts)
Fasten off and weave the end.
Heart Applique
Make a magic ring, ch 2, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 3 hdc into the ring, ch 2, sl st to the ring. Fasten off, weave the end and cut the yarn leaving 10″ yarn tail. With yarn needle attach the heart one row above at the edge of the hat.
