Since I did Farm Animal Potholder Pattern Series last year, I had many requests for a puppy dog potholder. I also thought this farm animal potholder pattern series is not complete without a dog pattern.
This potholder perfect for a gift giving to the dog lover in your life. You can make this puppy dog potholder in different colors.

First, you need to make two flat circles. After adding facial features to the one flat circle you will see a cute dog face. The next step is joining these two circles together to get a double thickness. And it will cover the yarn ends on the wrong side of the dog face.

Crochet Puppy Dog Potholder Pattern
Skill Level: Easy
Finished size: 7.25″ diameter
Materials
4-Medium weight / Worsted / 100% Cotton / 150 total yards
(I used)
- Drops Paris UNI COLOR (Amazon links)
- 1 skein of White (No 16)
- Small amount of Brown (No 44) for ears.
- Small amount of Black (No 15) for sewing eyes.
- Small amount of light brown color for snout and edging (I used some scrap yarns)
- H-8 / 5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
Gauge: Gauge is not very important for this pattern.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- beg = beginning
- *to ; = repeat * to the instructions.
- [ ] work instructions within brackets as many times as directed.
Notes
- Beg ch does not count as st.
- Gauge is not very important for this pattern.
(make 2)
With Black color make a magic/adjustable ring.
Round 1: ch 1, 10 hdc into the ring, sl st to the first st. (10 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to the first st. (20 sts)
Round 3: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (30 sts)
Round 4: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat *to around, sl st to the first st. (40 sts)
Round 5: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat *to around, sl st to the first st. (50 sts)
Round 6: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 4 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat *to around, sl st to the first st. (60 sts)
Round 7: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 5 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat *to around, sl st to the first st. (70 sts)
Round 8: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 6 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat *to around, sl st to the first st. (80 sts) Fasten off and weave the ends.
Ears (make 2)
With brown color yarn, ch 9
Round 1: 3 sc in second ch from the hook, sc in each of next ch 6, 5 sc in last ch, working on the opposite side of the foundation chains, sc in each of next ch 6, sl st to the first sc. (20 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 8 st, 2 sc in each of next 3 st, sc in each of next 7 st, sl st to the first sc. (24 sts)
Round 3: ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in each of next 2 st, sc in each of next 4 st, hdc in each of next 4 st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in each of next 2 st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 4 st, sc in each of next 3 st, sl st to the first sc. (30 sts)
Round 4: ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 10 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 9 st, sl st to the first sc. (34 sts) Fasten off and cut the yarn leaving about 8″ long yarn tail.
Nose
With light brown color yarn, ch 4
Row 1: (beg ch 3 count as a st) 5 dc in 4th ch from the hook, turn. (5 sts total with beg ch)
Row 2: sc in first st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 st, Fasten off and cut the yarn leaving about 8″ long yarn tail.
Finishing
Get one circle and attach a stitch marker in first st of the last round. We are going to sew facial features on this marked circle and the marked st for making a hanging loop. So make sure to attach facial features when the marked stitch facing up. Sew each ear, nose and mouth (shown below) with the yarn tail and tapestry needle. With black color yarn, embroider 2 ears just above the nose and mouth below the nose with light brown color yarn.
Joining two pieces together
Holding two pieces together right side out, With the light brown color yarn or same color begins with sc at the top of the st of two circles (don’t forget to insert the hook in that marked st of the one circle), sc in each st around the edge on both sides until last st, ch 10, sl st to the first st (made a loop), Fasten off and weave the end.
