Crochet Linen Stitch

When the air gets colder you will need something to cover your shoulder.  The easy linen asymmetrical shawl is perfect for the upcoming colder weather. I used DK weight yarns and a larger hook size to make the shawl more draping. You can make it with any weight of yarn, too. Gauge is not very important for this pattern.

Crochet Linen/Moss Stitch Shawl

Skill Level: Easy

Finished size: 55″ x 26″ (This pattern can be crocheted any size you want)

Materials

#3-Light / DK, Light worsted / Approx: 850 yds total

  • 2 and a half skeins of Baby Dream Print (100% Antipilling Acrylic 100g = 284 yds/260m)
  • US I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends

You can use any weight of yarns to crochet this shawl

Gauge: gauge is not very important for this pattern.

Abbreviations (US Term)

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sk = skip
  • ch-sp = chain space
  • beg = beginning
  • * to ; = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
  • [] = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
  • Notes
  • I used a larger hook instead of the recommended hook size for the yarn weight to make the shawl to get it more drape.
  • beg ch does not count as a stitch.
  • Repeat rows 22 to 25 continuously for larger size. I use stitch markers on first row in the repeat section to easily find.

Row 2: ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, sc in ch-sp, turn. (2 sc)
Row 3: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sc in last st, turn. (3 sc)
Row 4: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. (3 sc)
Row 5: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sc in next st, ch 1, sc in last st, turn. (4 sc)
Row 6: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sc in next ch-sp, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. (4 sc)
Row 7: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sc in next st, ch 1, sc in ch-sp, ch 1, sc in last st, turn. (5 sc)

Row 22: ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, sc in next st, *ch 1, sc in next ch-sp; repeat to * until last ch-sp, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. (9 sc)
Row 23: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, *ch 1, sc in next ch-sp; repeat to * until last ch-sp, ch 1, sc in last st, turn. (10 sc)
Row 24: ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sc in next ch-sp; repeat to * until last ch-sp, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. (10 sc)
Row 25: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch-sp, *ch 1, sc in next ch-sp; repeat to * until last ch-sp, sc in last st, turn. (11 sc)
Row 26 to 181 : repeat rows 22 to 25 continuously.
Last Row: ch 1, crochet sc in each sc and ch-sp across. Cut the yarn and weave the end.
