Basic hdc Crochet Beanie Hat Pattern with 3rd Loop Striped Edge by Crochet For You

This is the basic hdc crochet beanie hat pattern with 4 rounds of 3rd loop striped edge.
I used 2 strands of sport weight yarns together to get a unique texture and a nice color combo.. Sizes include child, teen, adult.

Skill Level Intermediate

Finished sizes:

Child

Crown flat = 6”
Hat length top to bottom = 6”
Hat Circumference = 15 – 17”

Teen

Crown flat = 6.5”
Hat length top to bottom = 7”
Hat Circumference = 17 – 19”

Adult

Crown flat = 7”
Hat length top to bottom = 8”
Hat Circumference = 19 – 20”

Materials (I used)

I used 2 strands of sport weight yarn held together (15 WPI)

Coffee brown color – Approx: 150 yards
Golden yellow color – Approx: 150 yards
5 mm crochet hook

Gauge with 2 strands of sport weight yarns 15 hdc, 10 rows = 4” with 5 mm crochet hook.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
* to = repeat * to the instructions.

Basic hdc Crochet Beanie Hat Pattern with 3rd Loop Striped Edge

For all sizes
With together brown and yellow strands, Make a magic ring.
Round 1: ch 1(does not count as a st), 8 hdc in magic ring, sl st to first hdc. (8 sts)

Round 2: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each around, sl st to first hdc. (16 sts)

Round 3: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (24 sts)

Round 4: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (32 sts)

Round 5: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (40 sts)

Round 6: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (48 sts)

Round 7: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (56 sts)

Child

Round 8-11: ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1hdc in each around, sl st to first hdc. (56 sts)

Round 12: With together two strands of yellow color,
ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each of next around, sl st to first hdc. (56 sts)

Round 13-16: With same yarn together, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc into 3rd loop in same st, 1 hdc into 3rd loop in each around, sl st to first hdc. (56 sts)

Round 17: With together two strands of brown color, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in each across, sl st to first sc. Fasten off and weave the ends. (56 sts)

Teen

Round 8: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (64 sts)

Round 9-13: ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each around, sl st to first hdc. (64 sts)

Round 14: With together two strands of yellow color, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each around, sl st to first hdc. (64 sts)

Round 15-18: With same yarn together, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc into 3rd loop in same st, 1 hdc into 3rd loop in each around, sl st to first hdc. (64 sts)

Round 19: With together two strands of brown color, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in each across, sl st to first sc. Fasten off and weave the ends. (64 sts)

Adult

Round 8: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (64 sts)

Round 9: ch 1(does not count as a st), 2 hdc in same st, *1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (72 sts)

Round 10-15: ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each of next st around, sl st to first hdc. (72 sts)

Round 16: With together two strands of yellow color, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each around, sl st to first hdc. (72 sts)

Round 17-20: With same yarn together, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 hdc into 3rd loop in same st, 1 hdc into 3rd loop in each around, sl st to first hdc. (72 sts)

Round 21: With together two strands of brown color, ch 1(does not count as a st), 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in each across, slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave the ends. (72 sts)
