Casual Summer Sun Hat Pattern by Crochet For You.
Looking for a sun hat to crochet? I’m excited to share another sun hat today with you all. 🙂 This is my second sun hat I made for this year after crocheting straw sun hat. Casual Summer Sun Hat hat has a breathable open weave sides with the pretty v-stitch. Perfect for everyday wear. Use your favorite two colors to get a nice texture.

Skill Level: Easy
Finished size: (adult)
- Hat circumference = 21″
- Hat height without brim = 7.5″
- Brim height = 2.5″
Materials
#4-Medium / Worsted / Cotton / Approx: 160 yards.
(I used)
- (C1) Soft Smooth Cotton Natural Double Knitting Wool Yarn Ball Baby Woolcraft 200g – Light Purple Red 125 yards
- (C2) 1 skein of Soft Smooth Cotton Natural Double Knitting Wool Yarn Ball Baby Woolcraft 200g – White 35 yards
- I-9, 5.5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
Gauge 12 hdc x 8 rows = 4″ with I-9, 5.5mm crochet hook
Abbreviations/special stitches
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- ch-() sp = chain-() space
- sk = skip
- to ; = repeat * to the instructions.
Special stitch
- V-st = (dc, ch 2, dc) in indicated st.
- Crab st = crab st/Reverse Single Crochet
Notes: beg ch does not count as a st.
Casual Summer Sun Hat
With (C1) make a magic ring,
Round 1: ch 1, 6 sc into the ring, sl st to first sc. (6 sc)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in first st and each st around, sl st to first sc. (12 sc)
Round 3: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (18 sc)
Round 4: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (24 sc)
Round 5: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (30 sc)
Round 6: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (36 sc)
Round 7: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (42 sc)
Round 8: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (48 sc)
Round 9: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (54 sc)
Round 10: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (60 sc)
Round 11: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (66 sc)
Round 12: ch 1, sc in first st and each st around, sl st to first sc. (66 sc)
Round 13: repeat round 12.
Round 14: with (C2), ch 2, v-st in first st, *sk next 2 sts, v-st in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first dc. (22 v-sts)
Round 15: join (C1) at ch-2 sp of v-st, ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-sp, *ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-sp; repeat * to around, sl st to first dc. (44 dc)
Round 16: join (C2) at ch-1 sp, ch 2, v-st in same space, *v-st in each ch-1 sp around, sl st to first dc. (22 v-st)
Round 17 to 20: repeat round 15 and 16 continuously.
Brim
Round 21: with (C1), 3 sc in each ch-2 sp of v-st around, sl st to first sc. (66 sc)
Round 22: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next sc; repeat * to around, sl st to first sc. (77 sc)
Round 23: 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc. (88 hdc)
Round 24: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in each st around, sl st to first st.
Round 25: 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc.
Round 26: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in each st around, sl st to first st.
Round 27: 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 8 sts, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to first hdc.
Round 28: ch 1, crab st/Reverse Single Crochet in each st around, sl st to first st.
