Houndstooth Mini Stocking – free crochet pattern
Houndstooth Mini Stocking Crochet Pattern by Crochet For You.
This crochet stocking is easy and has a beautiful texture with Houndstooth stitch. You can make larger one by changing yarn weight to bulky.

Skill level Intermediate
Finished size
9” tall and 3.5 width
Materials (You can use any yarn weight for this. The stocking will larger or smaller from materials you have selected)
(I used) worsted (10 WPI)
- (MC) Red color (13 yards)
- (CA) White color (13 yards)
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
Gauge
- 15 dc x 8.5 rows = 4” with 4.5mm crochet hook.
Abbreviations / stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single stitch
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
- *to* = repeat * to * the instructions
- (MC) Main Color
- (CA) Color A
- (RS) Right Side
- [] = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
Note: beg ch(s) does not count as st. Carry up each color when it needs, no need to break the yarns before change the color.
Houndstooth Mini Stocking Pattern
Round 1: with (MC), ch 1, 10 hdc in magic ring, sl st to first hdc. (10 hdc sts)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to first hdc. (20 hdc sts)
Round 3: ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc in each st around, sl st to first hdc. (20 hdc sts)
Round 4: with (CA), ch 1, sc in same st, *dc in next st, sc in next st* repeat *to* around, last dc sl st to first sc. (20 sts total)
Round 5: (MC), ch 1, dc in same st, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc* repeat *to* around, last sc sl st to first dc. (20 sts total)
Round 6: (CA), ch 1, sc in same st, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc* repeat *to* around, last dc sl st to first sc. (20 sts total)
Round 7 -10: repeat rounds 5 and 6.
Heel
This part worked in rows. At the end of the last row of this part (Row 4), last st and first st attached together with slip stitch (sl st). Sew the open side with tapestry needle after finishing heel part.
Row 1: (MC) ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each of next 9 sts. (10 sts total)
Row 2-4: ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (10 sts total)
Remove the hook from the loop (photo 1). (RS) Insert the hook in first sc of the last row we just crocheted (photo 2). Pick up the loop and pull back through the st (photo 3 and 4).
Work in short side of the heel, ch 1, [sc in next st, dc in next st] 2 times (photo 1 below), sc in 10th st of round 10 (photo 2 below).
Work in remaining sts around of round 10, [dc in next sc, sc in next dc] 5 times around the sock. dc in first st of round 10 (after beg ch 1) (photo 3 below).
Worked in short side of the heel, [sc in next st, dc in next st] 2 times, sl st to first sc. (20 sts total)
Top part of the sock (Work in rounds)
Round 1: with (CA), ch 1, dc in same st, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc* repeat *to* around, last sc sl st to first dc. (20 sts total)
Round 2: with (MC) ch 1, sc in same st, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc* repeat *to* around, last dc sl st to first sc. (20 sts total)
Round 3-12: repeat rounds 1 and 2.
Round 13-14: ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc in each sts around, sl st to first hdc. (20 sts total)
Edging and the loop for hanging
With (CA), [ch 4, sl st to next st] 3 times, ch 25, sl st to next st, *ch 4, sl st to next st* repeat *to* around, Fasten off and weave the ends.
